Note: (K) indicates a 912 assembled at the Karmann factory in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany. (Because demand
for Porsches exceeded the factory's capacity, Karmann
constructed 912s under contract.)
(P) indicates 912s assembled in
Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany (the former Reutter
Stuttgart Carosserie-Werke car body factory acquired by Porsche in
1963).
Porsche assembled all Targas in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.
The approximate Vehicle Identification Number
sequence splits listed above for 1966 model year cars constructed in
1965 are based on the earliest 912 Registry-listed cars having 1966
paint codes. Note that
some 1966 and later model year cars have 1964/65 paint codes, as the
earlier 356/911/912 colors could be special ordered for later cars. The split numbers
listed here are subject to updating based on cars registered, please check back from time to
time.
Although factory publications indicate
1969 912 Karmann coupes start with
VIN 129000001, 912 owners have researched and found Karmann
coupes actually start with sequence 129020001. This is
consistent with 1966-1968 912 production numbers which
demonstrate that Karmann built the majority of 912s those years
as well. Also, the last VIN for 1969 Karmann Coupe
currently registered is 129023483, and others have registered
Karmann coupes with VINs higher than a factory published last
chassis number of 129023450.
